Vintage Wedding with New Orleans Charm

This might have been Melinda and Zach's dream wedding, but it was definitely MY dream wedding too! Their recent nuptials in New Orleans had all the hallmarks of a perfect day for me: quirky vintage charm, 1930's bias-cut gown, vintage western groom's suit, dramatic color, and phenomenal photography! This might have been Melinda and Zach's dream wedding, but it was definitely MY dream wedding too!

Melinda and Zach chose Race + Religious in the heart of New Orleans for their ceremony and reception. The artfully designed interiors feature artifacts in each nook and around every corner. The quirky beauty of R+R has been used for Anthropologie Catalogs, Coca-Cola commercials, feature films and popular music videos. It was a perfect backdrop for them to take their vows and parade around with the Kinfold brass band.

For their stationery, Melinda and Zach chose my Art Nouveau Le Marguerite design. Melinda, a textile and fashion historian must have felt a connection to this design as it was inspired by an antique french journal I found in Paris and it paired perfectly with their New Orleans location. Their wedding palette featured a soft blue and rich burgundy- a color combination you don't often see. But when you flip through their photo gallery, you can understand how these opposing colors play off each other and work insanely well! I printed the invitations with an elegant gold metallic foil which added an extra layer of elegance. This added touch helped push the vintage Art Nouveau wedding in New Orleans.

The last thing I will say is this-- I have never seen a Photographer shoot as much and in as many ways as Margaret Wroblewski. She shot in bright and clear digital color and black and white. She shot in film to capture a warm, vintage cinema-type feel. And then she shot in polaroid, which gives you the feeling of being in another time and place -- intimate and welcome. She captured the wedding with all of its eccentricities, love and creativity.
